Ricky Martin Rejects Claims Of “Sexual & Romantic Relationship” With Nephew, Lawyer Says; Hearing Set In Puerto Rico Later This Month.
Sadly, the source of this accusation is battling serious mental health issues, Martin's attorney Marty Singer informed Deadline today. The Hollywood powerhouse attorney said, "Ricky Martin has, of course, never been — and would never be — involved in any type of sexual or romantic connection with his nephew." The notion is not just false, but also repulsive.
As his client in Puerto Rico is accused of domestic abuse by the younger relative, Ricky Martin's lawyer stated Friday that the singer never had "any type of sexual or romantic contact with his nephew."
The singer stated, "We all pray that this man receives the care he so desperately needs. But more than anything, we eagerly anticipate the judge dismissing this terrible case as soon as he or she has a chance to review the evidence.
Following a rumored seven-month personal relationship with the 21-year-old nephew, Martin has lately become the target of a temporary restraining order as well as new allegations of abuse. On July 21, there will be a hearing in Puerto Rico regarding the accusations. If Martin is found guilty of the felony of domestic violence with a relative, he may face a sentence of over 50 years.
The unincorporated U.S. territory's most recent allegations and the attorney's response come as Grammy-winning actor and star of The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story Martin deals with a contentious $3 million lawsuit brought by his on-and-off manager Rebecca Drucker over unpaid commissions. Drucker and her Venable LLP team also claim that the plaintiff protected the allegedly drug-abusing "Livin' La Vida Loca" singer from a "possibly career-ending accusation in September 2020," likely to speed up the process.
